ASHLAND — The Rev. Leslie Becknell Marx will discuss the significance of Memorial Day at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, May 29, at Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 Fourth St.

Memorial Day began as a day to commemorate those who had died during the Civil War and later became a day to remember all those Americans who died fighting for their country. Visitors are welcome to come together to explore how to honor the courage and sacrifice of soldiers while acknowledging the huge costs and tragedies of war and affirming a commitment to peace. ASHLAND — Unity in Ashland's the Rev. Norma Burton will present a ritual and talk on Awakening the Solar Fire — Celebrating the Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, May 29, at the Havurah, 185 N. Mountain St.

The Solar Fire is that power which moves the universe, the power that is realized by creation and sustains it. Awakening this fire releases the creative power that we all share. Egyptian Mysteries say this power of the Solar Fire is personified by the Goddess Sekhmet.
