Winifred Mary Bentley Malardino passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Rogue Valley Medical Center. She was born November 7, 1918, in Thornton, England, to Thomas and Alice Sanderson Bentley. Winifred married Nick Malardino, in 1962, in Carmel, Calif.
Winifred was proudest of her military service in the U.K., with the Voluntary Aid Detachment, serving in the back of wartime ambulances. Then she served as a nurse in the Royal Navy, in the hospital near Portsmouth where the most seriously injured were brought from France. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1959, and was employed in a San Francisco hospital. She later worked for Dr. Wong, in his Santa Rosa medical practice. Following Nick's retirement, they moved to Southern Oregon, living in Grants Pass, Merlin, and Central Point.
Winifred was an avid reader, and loved history and medicine. She enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Winifred was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, Nick, in 1996.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 1:30 p.m., at Seven Oaks Farm, 5504 Rogue Valley Hwy., Central Point, Ore., Father Barnes officiating.
