EUGENE — Tyler Anderson's outing Friday night at PK Park couldn't have been any sweeter.

In what is presumed to be his last appearance in an Oregon uniform at PK Park, Anderson pitched the Ducks (31-26-1) to a 4-1 victory over No. 6 Oregon State (38-15, 17-8) in the Civil War Series opener.

The Oregon State loss, coupled with UCLA's 10-3 victory at Arizona State, put the clubs into a tie for first place in the Pacific-10 Conference with identical 17-8 records.

Anderson, a junior left-hander, held the Beavers to one run in 71/3 innings, scattering four hits and fanning 10. He outdueled Oregon State's Sam Gaviglio, handing the Ashland native his second loss against 11 wins.

With 10 strikeouts, Anderson (8-3) broke his own record, setting the UO single-season record with 114 strikeouts in 2011, and reaching 285 for his career. His 10 strikeouts also matched a career-high against a Pac-10 opponent, and Friday night was his sixth start of the season with double-digit strikeouts.

Before Anderson's exit, KC Serna gave the Ducks a three-run cushion in the bottom of the seventh, crushing a towering two-run homer to left field on Gaviglio's 1-1 delivery.

Gaviglio allowed four runs on four hits, two walks and a hit batter in 62/3 innings on the hill. It was the junior right-hander's first loss since April 1 at Arizona.

Gaviglio fanned six, giving him 102 strikeouts on the year. He became the 10th pitcher in team history to record at least 100 in a season.

Aaron Jones gave Oregon a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly and the Ducks took a 2-0 edge in the third on a fielder's choice by Jones.

Ryan Dunn, who had two hits to lead Oregon State, scored the Beavers only run in the top of seventh as he was driven after a one-out single on Parker Berberet's double to left.

The Ducks and Beavers will play the second game of this weekend's series with a 2 p.m. start today at PK Park.
