Robert I. Assali passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at Rogue Valley Medical Center, after an accidental fall. He was 68, and a warm, kind, and patient man, a loyal friend, and a hard worker who lived in the Rogue Valley for more than 50 years.
Bob was born to Igino and Angeline Assali, in Newman, Calif., on January 16, 1943. He spent his early years in Newman and Turlock, before moving with his family to Eagle Point. He graduated from Eagle Point High School in 1960, and from the University of Oregon in 1964. At the University of Oregon he was a member of ROTC and Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity.
After college, Bob moved back to Eagle Point to run the family business, Southern Oregon Tallow, which he co-owned and operated until its closure in 2006. In the late 1960s, Bob was an Eagle Point Reserve Police Officer.
In 1989, he married Paula Assali, who preceded him in death on May 16, 2009. He is survived by his sister, Leni; his stepchildren, Emily and Josh; his stepdaughter-in-law, Geneva; and his grandchildren, Dorothy and Roy. He also had two children from a previous marriage.
The memorial service for Robert will be at 4:00 p.m., on Friday, June 3, 2011, at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Rd., Central Point. Reception to follow.
