EUGENE — St. Mary's Joe Volk received the girls cross country coach of the year award for the 2009-10 season from the National Federation of State High School Associations during a banquet at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.

EUGENE — St. Mary's Joe Volk received the girls cross country coach of the year award for the 2009-10 season from the National Federation of State High School Associations during a banquet at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.

Volk is the Crusaders' boys and girls cross country and track and field coach.

Criteria for the award included career coaching record, community service, involvement in other school activities, involvement in the profession at the local, state and national levels and basic coaching philosophy.

Also at the banquet, the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association recognized Volk as the girls 2A track and field coach of the year and presented St. Mary's with an all-sports award.

Crater's Justin Loftus received 6A boys cross country and track and field coach of year awards.

Phoenix's Glenn Johannes was given the 4A boys basketball coach of the year award and Jim Heath earned 4A/3A/2A/1A girls swim coach of the year recognition for the Pirates.

Mazama's Angela Durant took home the 4A girls soccer coach of the year accolade.

Cascade Christian head boys basketball coach Brian Morse was honored by the Oregon Athletic Officials Association with the meritorious sportsmanship award.

John Campbell was named the official of the year by the OAOA.
