Regarding the restoration of the Holly Theatre, I would love to see it again as it once was. I worked at the Holly when I was in high school in the '40s. I have many fond memories of those years.

Regarding the restoration of the Holly Theatre, I would love to see it again as it once was. I worked at the Holly when I was in high school in the '40s. I have many fond memories of those years.

A couple of years ago, I had an opportunity to go to the old Elsinore Theater in Salem, which had been beautifully restored. It was elegant. I felt like I was at the opera. That particular evening, a classic movie was being shown, something done once a week. Being a classic music buff, it was extra-special to me. What a treat to see it on the big screen again. The Elsinore is used for many types of entertainment and it has done very well.

I believe restoring the Holly would be an asset to Medford also. — Margaret Rose, Medford

In Robert Graves' wonderful book "I Claudius," Claudius says "let all the poisons in the mudd hatch out." In my opinion we are witnessing this hatching of poisons in the behavior of the Republican Party in Ohio and Wisconsin.

These two states have passed modern "Jim Crow" voting laws. These laws are being passed in many red states. As I watch these actions unfold before my eyes, the only thing that I can ask is, "Where are the white sheets and pointed hoods"?

If this is what the Republican Party has become, I think we as a nation should be thoroughly ashamed that this kind of behavior is embraced and encouraged by those of the right in this country. On another note, there's a saying the goes like this, "give a fool enough rope and he will hang himself." Obama is making fools of the GOP and tea party. Keep up the swell work. — Lindsay Paulk, White City

May I share with your readers the following information from PETA about the yearly Canadian seal slaughter? Each spring hundreds of thousands of harp seals that migrate down the Canadian coast are beaten to death or shot for their pelts by fishermen.

Baby seals are routinely hooked in the eye, cheek or mouth to avoid damaging the fur. They then are dragged across the ice to be skinned, often while they are still conscious. Baby seals are forced to watch other seals being beaten to death, only to meet the same fate themselves.

The Humane Society of the United States also has much information about the Canadian seal slaughter at http://tinyurl.com/4d42l3t.

The Canadian seal slaughter is cruel to animals and needs to be stopped. You can help by writing or calling the following people and asking them to please help stop the seal slaughter:

The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Office of the Prime Minister, 80 Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON, K1A 0A2, Canada, pm@pm.gc.ca.

The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, House of Commons, Parliament Buildings, Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6, Canada, info@dfo-mpo.gc.ca.
