Fireworks may not bought or sold in the City of Ashland this summer, city officials said.

This is the second year of firework prohibition in the city.

Citations of up to $500 can be written for people violating the law in the Ashland city limits.

Wire-cored sparklers, smoke bombs, snakes and party poppers can still be used, as they are considered novelty items and not fireworks.

The Ashland Chamber of Commerce will host a 10 p.m. fireworks display over the Southern Oregon University athletic fields July 4.
