Robert Lee Johnson, 56, of Medford, Ore., passed away Friday, June 17, 2011. Bob was born on July 2, 1954, in Long Beach, Calif., where he was also raised. He attended Cerritos Junior College and San Diego State University, where he played football. Bob graduated in 1978 with a degree in biology. He went on to gain a certificate in physical therapy from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

In 1983, Bob took a job as a physical therapist at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. He remained there for the rest of his life, with the exception of a two-year stint in San Diego, Calif., when he attended Westminster Theological Seminary.

In 1978, Bob married Carol Johnson (ne Mullen), in Long Beach. The two of them recently celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary.

Bob enjoyed playing, watching and coaching sports. He also enjoyed rafting, camping, teaching Sunday school, and reading and discussing philosophy and theology.

Bob converted to Christianity while in college, and a conviction of truth of the Christian gospel lay at the center of his life. He faced death courageously, with the confident hope that he will be raised on the Last Day to worship his Creator and Savior eternally together with all God's people.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carol, of Medford; sons, Dan M. (Sarah) Johnson, of Portsmouth, Ohio, Steven R. (Nadine) Johnson, of Medford; grandson, Lucas, of Medford; sisters, Debi Johnson, of Bend, Ore., Vikki (Gary) Hikkmann, of Bend, Jackie (Sam) Cason, of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, Scott Johnson, of Eureka Springs, Ark.; nephews, Robert, Kyle, Drew, Wiley, Everett and Martin; neices, Rachel, Carly, Katie; and his special aunt and uncle, Joyce and Larry Ayres, of El Cajon, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gloria Johnson, of Long Beach.

There will be a memorial service after cremation on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Dr., Medford, OR 97504. (541)773-8274
