Track and field standout Jason Slowey was one of five student-athletes at Western Oregon selected for the 2011 Spring Marquis Spas Athlete of the Year awards.

Slowey, a North Medford High graduate, helped the Wolves win the Great Northwest Athletic Conference outdoor championship this past spring after previously claiming the program's fourth straight indoor championship. He was a four-time defending conference champion in the shot put, winning the indoor and outdoor titles in 2011, and led the Wolves in scoring at the GNAC outdoor championships with a meet-high 24 points.

Slowey also moved into third place on Western Oregon's all-time outdoor list in the shot put and the discus.

Joining Slowey as spring recipients for the honor were track and field teammates Amanda Schumaker and Will Crook, baseball player Daniel Dillard and softball player Jessica Hallmark. All five will join the list of previous seasonal winners this year in the running for the finale Marquis Spas Male and Female Athlete of the Year award, to be announced soon.
