Medford's Sweet Adelines won first place among small choruses at a regional Sweet Adelines International competition on Saturday, May 20, in Spokane, Wash. Southern Oregon Sound, under the direction of Martha Segura, competed against 15 choruses from Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Vancouver, Wash., at the event. Pride of Portland, boasting about 100 members, was first overall. SOS had 26 singers on the Spokane stage Saturday and placed fourth overall. The Medford group, which includes singers from Jackson and Josephine counties, placed second among small choruses in 2010 and third in 2009. It has moved up in the overall standings from seventh in 2009 to fifth last year and now fourth.
