Faye McQuade Dawson, 78, of Medford, Ore., passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at her home. She was born in Fox Coulee, Wis., on March 8, 1933, to John and Vyolette McQuade. Faye attended Central Point High School from 1948 to 1951. She married Sam Dawson in 1952.
Faye moved with her family from Wis., to Seattle, Wash., in 1940. On a 1946 trip to Southern California, she saw Table Rock for the first time and told her father, This is where I want to live. Within a year, the McQuade family had moved to Central Point, Ore. She would live most of her next 64 years in the Rogue Valley.
Faye worked as a waitress, a grocery checker and pear-packer. She assisted her husband in a bee-keeping business, and possessed great patience and skill with animals. Faye helped train horses as a teenager, and raised beef cattle, milk cows, chickens, rabbits, and goats as an adult. She also enjoyed restoring old homes.
A woman of great compassion, Faye often volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, and brought food to the homeless. Her home and heart was always open to friends and family members.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; and her brothers, Paul, Lloyd, and Virgil. She is survived by her brothers, Alan McQuade, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jerome McQuade of Burney, Calif.; her sister, Kathleen Medina, of Woodburn, Ore.; daughter, Julie Tirado, of Redding, Calif.; sons, Jerry Dawson (Lori Cooper), of Jacksonville, Ore., and Bill Dawson (Ila Adhikari), of Centennial, Colo.; grandsons, Ryan Tirado, of Redding, Calif., and Connor Dawson, of Jacksonville, Ore.; granddaughters, Cora Dawson, of Jacksonville, Ore., and Sonali Dawson, of Centennial, Colo.; and great-grandson, Brody Tirado, of Redding, Calif.
A celebration of life will be held at Conger-Morris, in Central Point, Ore., at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 2, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101
