Three Ashland baseball players and a North Medford softball player were named to 2011 all-state teams.

North Medford junior center fielder Sierra Berryessa was awarded Class 6A all-state softball honors, while senior third baseman Brent Hegdahl, junior first baseman Billy Hansen and senior pitcher Brady Thomas were all selected to the 5A all-state baseball squad.

Berryessa was the Southern Oregon Hybrid player of the year for the league champion Black Tornado, which finished the season 24-4 overall and 14-2 in conference play.

Hegdahl, the Southern Oregon Hybrid 5A player of the year, wrapped up year hitting .500 with a .917 slugging percentage. He recorded 12 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 43 RBIs for the Grizzlies, who went 25-2 overall and 2-0 in league action against Eagle Point.

Thomas, who made the list as a pitcher, finished 9-0 with a 1.36 ERA. The right-hander struck out 49 in 612/3 innings.

Hansen, a senior-to-be at Ashland, batted .544 with an .800 slugging percentage. He recorded 17 doubles, two homers, 37 RBIs and 47 runs scored.

"They are all great players," Ashland head coach Don Senestraro said. "They deserve to be there and they worked hard to get there. I hope they enjoyed the time they had playing and I'm proud of them."

Others from Southern Oregon to make all-state teams were 6A baseball players Nathan Etheridge (Grants Pass senior first baseman) and Josh Graham (Roseburg junior pitcher).

All-state selections were made by a consensus of league representatives in each classification.
