Charlotte M. Bigelow, 73, continued on to her next journey on July 22, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. She had her beloved husband and family at her side in her Shady Cove, Ore., home.
She was born December 9, 1937, in Roseburg, Ore., to Charles and Vivienne (Gervais) Collins. Her youngest years were spent at Collins Lookout on Collins Ridge, in the Umpqua National Forest, later moving to the Summit Guard Station. She graduated from Marshfield High School, in Coos Bay, Ore.
She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Bigelow, June 9, 1956, in Coos Bay, Ore. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959, where they built a house and home together to raise their five children.
Charlotte became one of the first women bus drivers for School District # 9 in 1970, where she drove three generations of students for 29 years before her retirement in 1999.
She was a Camp Fire girl, a 4-H'34, and loved the mountains. Flower gardening, quilting, traveling, sewing, reading and hiking were among her many hobbies and joys in life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur Watson Bigelow, of Shady Cove, Ore.; daughters, Anne (Bigelow) Cummings, of White City, Ore.; and Elizabeth A. Bigelow-Williams (Roger), of Shady Cove, Ore.; sons, Arthur Wade Bigelow (Rhea), of Bend, Ore.; Martin C. Bigelow (Gerri), of Shady Cove, Ore.; and David G. Bigelow, of California; brother, Charles Collins (Glenda), of Sisters, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren, ten great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vivienne Collins; and a granddaughter, Michelle Baker.
