The Jackson County Library Foundation and the libraries of the upper Rogue — Prospect, Butte Falls, Shady Cove, Eagle Point and White City — will hold a family barbecue with music at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in Eagle Point.

The Jackson County Library Foundation and the libraries of the upper Rogue — Prospect, Butte Falls, Shady Cove, Eagle Point and White City — will hold a family barbecue with music at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in Eagle Point.

Proceeds from the event, called Music at the Mill, will support a variety of children's programming in the libraries.

The event will take place on the lawn of Butte Creek Mill, 402 Royal Ave. Tickets range from $10 for music only to $25 for a full meal, including drinks. Kids eat for $15. Music will be provided by Hamfist

Ashland Parks and Recreation will hold an urban composting class from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 27, and Saturday, Sept. 24, at North Mountain Park Nature Center, 620 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland.

Students will learn to divert food scraps and organic yard debris from landfills, set up a composting system, and find out how to keep animals out of a compost pile.

The free class is for ages 13 and older, and is sponsored by the city of Ashland Conservation Commission and Recology Ashland Sanitary Service. For more information, call 541-482-1471.
