On August 19, 2011, in the company of his family, LaVelle Henry passed away in his sleep. He was born December 6, 1935, in Grant City, Mo., to Marie and Claude Henry.
In 1950, his family moved from LaGrande, Ore., to Central Point, Ore., where he attended Crater High school. On February 14, 1956, he married Lois Maxine (Peggy) Jones.
He was a Teamster and drove delivery trucks starting in 1956 for the Gilman dairy, Schneider dairy, Arden dairy, Pepsi, Jorgensen dairy, Mayflower Farms, and finally Pacific Fruit and Gamble Co., where he took early retirement to pursue his passion for buying and remodeling distressed properties.
His hobbies were many. He loved riding motorcycles, fixing up old cars, rafting, hunting, fishing, playing the ukulele, banjo, and singing. Nobody knew more old songs and limericks than our Dad, and he was also quite a poet. He had many friends.
He is survived by his son, Jon Henry (Kelly); daughter, Kelly LaDuke (Robert); sister, Bonnie Geyer; his two grandchildren, Sarah Henry, and Shaun Larson; and one great grandchild, Ronin. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude; mother, Marie; sisters, Dena, Gwen, Darlene, Janice, and twin sister, LaVonne; granddaughter, Jessyca Newmann; and grandson, Christopher Henry.
To all our father's many friends, raise a glass of your favorite beverage, think of a fond memory, and see him off. He would really like that.
There will be a celebration of life barbeque at Kelly LaDuke's home on August 27, 2011. To RSVP and for directions, call 541-535-5478.
