Keith Gordon passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 13, 2011, in his home, at the age of 88.

Affectionately known to many as Dodo, Keith was born to Donald and Dorothy Gordon, in Hinsdale, Ill., on May 22, 1923. He grew up in Berkeley, Calif., graduating from Berkeley High in 1941, and continuing on to the University of California at Berkeley, where he met his future wife, Nancy Oliver. His studies were interrupted by World War II, however, and he served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 through 1946, achieving the rank of lieutenant (junior grade). While on a short leave from the military, he and Nancy married on December 20, 1945. After the war, Keith returned to U.C. Berkeley to complete his degree in forestry, graduating in 1948, with the Fearless Foresters of '48.

In 1957, Keith and his family settled in Medford, Ore., where Keith began working as a lumber wholesaler, a job he loved for 36 years until his retirement in 1993. During their marriage, Keith and Nancy enjoyed travelling and loved spending time with their family and close neighborhood friends.

Keith was involved in Hoo Hoo International, Moonshot Investment group, and was a member of the University Club.

Keith will be remembered for his gift for gab, his love of conversation, and his insatiable curiosity about the world around him. Keith could board an airliner and know everyone in the cabin by the time coffee was served; he could walk into a roomful of strangers and feel perfectly comfortable chatting about politics, the economy, and sometimes even the weather. His kids liked to say that he could talk to a fencepost and get a response. In his home, he was like a philosopher-king holding court, and indeed many of his children's friends gathered there over the years to listen and to debate and to learn. His door was always open, and crossing his threshold was always an experience. Keith touched many lives, and his passing leaves a void that will not easily be filled.

Keith is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents, Don and Dorothy; his brother, Ken; and his sister, Nancy. He is survived by his four children, Michael (Jane) Gordon, of Boulder Creek, Calif., Bruce (Karen) Gordon, of Sydney, Australia, Jane (Ed) Boening, and Anne (Pat) Barry, both of Medford, Ore.; his seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A gathering to celebrate Keith's life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Drive, Medford, Ore., on Saturday, September 24, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

If you want to make a donation in Keith's memory, the family suggests considering the following: the Southern Oregon Lumberman Association Scholarship Fund, given to local high school students for advanced education, 2240 Tower E Suite A, Medford, OR 97504; the Susan G.
