James Lawrence Gault was born September 7, 1943, in Medford, Ore., to Howard and Edith Gault. He passed away in his sleep at his home in Ashland, Ore., on September 13, 2011, following a long illness.

Known as Jimmy to family and friends, he grew up in rural Medford, riding his horse to visit friends, and climbing Roxy Ann. He enjoyed playing music in local bands and was accomplished on trumpet, bass and guitar. Jim was a graduate of the University of Nevada, where he earned a masters degree in English literature. He was a teaching assistant at Southern Oregon College (now known as Southern Oregon University), prior to a career in advertising/marketing. He worked for Harry and David, writing copy and designing catalogs, sometimes naming roses. Later, and until his death, he worked for Musician's Friend in their advertising department.

Jim, a devoted husband to his wife, Christine Gault, is survived by her; his mother, Edith Patterson; brothers, David (Barbara) Gault, and Ben (Leslie) Gault; sister, Janice (Jim) Morgan; daughter, Jennifer Lacy; granddaughter, Kaprise Carlson; and great-grandson, Michael Costillo. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Howard Gault.
