Daniel Gellermann, of Western Carriage Estates, passed away peacefully in his sleep the evening of October 3, 2011, at his home. The fifth and final surviving child of A.B.L. and Emma (Wanger) Gellermann, Dan was born October 30, 1915, in Tacoma, Wash. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1939, with a degree in forestry.

Dan worked his entire career as a forester, first for the U.S. Forest Service, then for Setzer Forest Products in Sacramento, Calif., and finally on his own as a consultant throughout Northern California.

A self-described cynic, Dan was an avid reader and writer, and the author of three books. He was particularly fond of quotes, his favorite being "Know thyself."

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Martha; and sons, Dan (YuYu), and Stephen (Louise). He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Hazel; and son, Richard.
