The Oregon State University Extension Service still has some openings in its 2012 Master Gardener class, according to a news release.

Classes start Jan. 12 and happen each Thursday until March 29. They last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hour lunch and are held in the OSU Extension auditorium, 215 Ringuette St., Grants Pass.

The course costs $100 and covers materials.

Topics included in the class include Rogue Valley climates, pest management, annuals and perennials, greenhouses and lawn care.

No experience is required.

Students will complete 70 hours of volunteer service with the program, including plant clinic, greenhouse, demonstration gardens, school programs, spring garden fairs and other activities. Volunteer hours are flexible.
