Bill Schneider, a one-time Knife River Corp. executive in Southern Oregon, has been named executive vice president of Bakken development by MDU Resources of Bismark, N.D. The Bakken shale-oil fields in North Dakota, Mont., which extend well into Canada, are among the largest energy-related development areas in the country.

Bill Schneider, a one-time Knife River Corp. executive in Southern Oregon, has been named executive vice president of Bakken development by MDU Resources of Bismark, N.D. The Bakken shale-oil fields in North Dakota, Mont., which extend well into Canada, are among the largest energy-related development areas in the country.

Schneider has been president and chief executive officer of Knife River Corp., MDU Resources' construction materials and contracting business, since May 2005.

Schneider began his career with Knife River in 1993 when the company acquired Alaska Basic Industries, where he was vice president and general manager. Later that year, Schneider was named regional vice president of KRC Holdings Inc. and returned to the Rogue Valley, where he earlier had worked on the Applegate Dam project.

Southern Oregon University graduate Ken Canon and Joe Benetti of Coos Bay have been named to the board of directors for Energy Trust of Oregon.

Canon, a Medford native, founded and led the Industrial Customers of Northwest Utilities, a regional industrial trade association focused on energy issues, for 24 years. Early in his career, Canon designed and implemented an energy-efficiency program at an International Paper mill. He later drafted and helped enact Oregon's Business Energy Tax Credit while working for Associated Oregon Industries.

Benetti, owner-operator of Benetti's Italian Restaurant in Coos Bay, chairs the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport Commission and is a board member of the Oregon Restaurant Association. He is a former three-term mayor of Coos Bay.
