Walter Weatherly, 54, of Medford, Ore., passed away after a two year battle with cancer on Thursday, December 22, 2011, surrounded by close family and friends. He is now walking with our heavenly Father, where there is no pain and endless love. Walt was born on December 13, 1957, in Santa Paula, Calif., to Oren and Doris Weatherly.

Walt graduated in 1976 from Arroyo Grande High School, Arroyo Grande, Calif. Walt married Toni R. Villines on June 25, 1988, in Santa Maria, Calif. In 1991, they were blessed with their daughter, Jessie. They then relocated to South Lake Tahoe, Calif., in 1992.

Walt worked for Brotherton Pipeline for a few years before being hired on with Avista Utilities. He then transferred with Avista Utilities in 2002 to Medford, Ore. Walt worked the majority of his life doing underground construction, and he was employed at Avista Utilities at the time of his death.

Walt was one of the most gentle, sweetest, and compassionate husband, father, brother and friend anyone could ask for. He enjoyed fishing, camping, or anything that involved being outdoors. He loved golfing and shooting guns with his close friends. Walt was "The Master BBQer." He enjoyed entertaining at the house with friends and family, not to mention his love for cigars and a good book. He was an avid reader. Walt had a compassion for people. The one thing he really enjoyed was the younger generation. He was like a second father to many of Jessie's friends. He loved telling them his life experiences and stories, but he always had a lending ear as well, and never judged. As everyone knows, he was never separated from his best friend, Beau, his dog of 11 years. Beau never left Walt's bed the evening he passed.

Walt is survived by his wife, Toni Weatherly, of Medford, Ore.; daughter, Jessie Weatherly, of Eugene, Ore.; sisters, JoAnn Weatherly Spillers, of Phoenix, Ariz., Theda Weatherly Haney, of Littleton, Colo., and Sherril Weatherly Smith, of Clifton, Texas; brothers, Ralph Weatherly, of Scribner, Neb., and Mark Weatherly, of Grover Beach, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Oren Weatherly Jr.; and mother, Doris Mussett Weatherly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Savage, Dr. Haulk, and Hospice for their excellent care.

A celebration of life will be held at the Weatherly home, 3011 Pippin Circle, Medford, Ore., on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 4:00 p.m.
