Hannon Library celebrates Chinese New Year with a lecture by the SOU Anthropology Lab on recent Jacksonville excavations.
As part of the Jacksonville Chinese New Year celebrations, Southern Oregon University presents a free lecture in the Hannon Library Meese Meeting Room at 4 p.m.
The Hannon Library is located on the SOU campus at 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland.
The lecture, “Hidden Heritage: Revisiting Jacksonville's Chinese Quarter,” will discuss recent excavations by the Southern Oregon University Laboratory of Anthropology.
Staff archaeologist Chelsea Rose will share Chinese artifacts from the excavations and talk about what they reveal about the history of the town's Chinese population. Mark Tveskov, associate professor and director of the SOU Laboratory of Anthropology, will discuss the mission and activities of the lab.
This free lecture is co-sponsored by the Southern Oregon Chinese Cultural Association as part of their Year of the Dragon celebrations, which will be centered in Jacksonville on Saturday, February 4.
