EAGLE POINT — Following a closed executive session Tuesday, the Eagle Point City Council voted to invite four candidates to interview for the soon-to-be-vacant city administrator position. Current City Administrator David Hussell will retire in March after nearly 14 years in that position.

The candidates are:

Henry Lawrence, city manager of Ontario. Lawrence has been manager for nearly three years after serving eight years as that city's assistant city manager. Tom Steel, former city administrator in West Jordan, Utah, for two years. Hugh Thomas, former township administrator for Sylvania Township, Ohio. He served in that position for four years. Richard Giroux, former city manager for Wauchula, Fla. for six years. However, Giroux may have already accepted a position in his home state of Ohio. According to the Hillsboro Ohio Times-Gazette, Giroux became Hillsboro's new safety and service director earlier this month.

"I guess the council will just keep it to the three," Hussell said after learning of Giroux's employment. "That's part of the reason they went with four just in case something like this happened."

Hussell said if any more candidates drop out, he thought the council might return and reconsider the list or "move in a different direction."

City Recorder Dena Roberts said the interviews will be held on Feb. 9 and 10 and that city will pay all expenses for the candidates. While in the city, Roberts said, the candidates will meet with staff and be given a tour of the city.

The interviews of the finalists will be held in executive session, Council President Alan Curriston said.
