Karl Clinkinbeard, of Eugene, Ore., passed away on January 3, 2012, of age-related causes at age 90.

He was born November 12, 1921, in Coos Bay, Ore., to Karl and Abigail (Smith) Clinkinbeard. He married Annette Sawyer on July 28, 1979, in Medford, Ore.

Karl graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in agriculture and from Willamette University with a law degree. He practiced law in Medford for over 20 years. Karl was active in Kiwanis and served on the Medford School Board.

During World War II, Karl served in the Marine Corps as second lieutenant in the battle of Iwo Jima. He later wrote a memoir about his wartime experiences.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kent, of Medford, Ore.; two stepsons, Eric Sawyer, of Spokane, Wash., and Michael Sawyer, of Beaverton, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Shannon Kearney, of Eugene, Ore., and Lauren Mueller, of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Geraldine Morin, of Roseburg, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Alpha Jane Butler; and son, William Clinkinbeard.

No service is planned. Arrangements are by Aurora Cremation Service in Eugene.
