David Pardee Jenkins, a long-time Jacksonville resident, joined his Lord on January 25, 2012. He was born April 16, 1927, in Hotchkiss, Colo. Dave was the fifth of Chester and Anna Jenkins' eight children. He grew up in Huntington Beach, Calif., and graduated from Huntington Beach Union High School in 1945.

Following high school, Dave joined the Army and served in the 12th Construction Airborne during World War II. He was a rifle expert and reconnaissance car crewman who played tackle for the Army football team.

Dave obtained a bachelor of arts degree from Southern California Bible College, as well as bachelor of science and master's degrees from Southern Oregon College. After beginning his teaching career in Garden Grove, Calif., he was hired by Medford School District 549C in 1963. Dave became a principal in 1966 and worked at Jacksonville and Griffin Creek Elementary Schools. He retired in 1991.

A licensed minister, Dave served as an itinerant pastor, associate pastor, and worship leader. He was honored for 35 years of continuous service as an adult Sunday school teacher at Calvary Church in Jacksonville. Dave was a gifted builder, skilled mechanic, and car enthusiast. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, and repair pocket watches.

Family was central to Dave. In 1961, he married Carol Seitz. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 30, 2011. In addition to Carol, Dave is survived by his three children and their spouses, Denette (Terry) Fretz, of Medford, Ore., David (Patty) Jenkins, of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Devin (Kimberlee) Jenkins, of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren, LeeAnn, Hannah, David, Jesse, Camden, Dreesen, Kambreea, and Lincoln; brother, Alvin Jenkins; and sisters, Roberta Amling, and Ethel Bokelman. He was preceded in death by three brothers; and a sister.

A remembrance service will be held at Medford First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews, Medford, Ore., Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission or to Medford First Church of the Nazarene Missions.
