Herbert O. Johnson, 91, of Phoenix, Ore., passed away on January 22, 2012, at his home. He was born in Livermore, Iowa, to Herbert and Mabel Johnson.
The family lived in Peerless, Mont., until 1937, when they moved to Richy, Mont., where Herb met and fell in love with Kathleen. They were married on April 22, 1943 and were blessed with eight children.
Herb served in the military for 30 years and spanning three wars; World War II, Korean and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force in 1974 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
Chief Johnson is survived by his wife, Kathleen; three sons, Steve, Lou and Rick (Gail); three daughters, Ellen (Bob) Oliver, Anne (Phil) Johnson and Jean Tucker; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin, of Santa Ana, Calif.; and his brother-in-law, Richard McConnen, of Bezeman, Mont. He was preceded in death by two sons, Tom and Dan.
The family is grateful for Dr. Stringer and the staff of Rogue Valley Medical Center, Providence Hospice, and Bernie Hukill of Signature Health Care for their kindness and care.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., February 1, 2012, at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

There will be a gathering at the club house at Bear Lake Estates following the memorial service.
