The guest speaker will be Anna Diehl, chief of community resources and public affairs at the Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics in White City.

Denny Morelli, a soil tester and commercial composter, will speak about amending your soil and composting at the next meeting of the Talent Garden Club, scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Talent Library.

The Medford Police Department has announced the promotion of three members of the department.

Detective Sgt. Mike Budreau will be promoted to lieutenant and will assume the duties of the criminal investigation commander. He has been with the department since June 1991.

Sgt. Curtis Whipple will be promoted to lieutenant and will assume the duties of the patrol division commander. He has been with the department since July 1996.

Officer Derek Parks will be promoted from master police officer to sergeant. He has been with the department since March 1998.

The three candidates were selected through a competitive selection process, a news release announcing the promotions said.

They will be sworn in during a ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, in the City Council Chambers at Medford City Hall.
