Richard "Dixie" Lyle Hughes, 79, of Medford, Ore., passed away January 26, 2012, in the comfort of his home. He was born October 14, 1932, in Medford, Ore., at 401 Orchard Home, to Raleigh Hughes and Blanche Runnels.
The Hughes family settled in the Rogue Valley in 1853. Richard's father ran the 401 Orchard. Richard graduated from high school, and, on June 12, 1952 in San Diego, Calif., he married Annabell Jones.
Richard worked at Timber Products, Medco, and Sel-Ply. He also served in the Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, yard work, antiques and bowling. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the C.B. Club.
Richard is survived by his wife, Annabell; daughter, Sherrie James; son, Brian Hughes; sister, Ina Reed; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by James Hughes; and Betty Gillette.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., February 2, 2012, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, with Pastor Micheal Brown of Table Rock Fellowship officiating.
