GRANTS PASS — North Medford freshman Colton Westfall introduced himself to the Southern Oregon Hybrid in grand fashion, pitching a no-hitter in the Black Tornado's league opener against Grants Pass on Saturday.

Undefeated North Medford (4-0) won the first game 1-0 and secured the sweep with a 7-0 victory in Game 2.

"It's a good effort and I'm excited to get that doubleheader sweep," North Medford head coach Brett Wolfe said. "Colton was a big part of that."

Westfall, a right-hander who showed command of his two- and four-seam fastball, change-up and breaking pitch, struck out 12 and walked two. His first walk came in the fourth inning with two outs and his second with two outs in the sixth.

Westfall, who also plays second base and in the outfield, improved to 3-0 on the year.

"(Westfall) located and had us off balance all day," Grants Pass head coach Brian Diatte said.

Charlie Walker scored the game-winning run in Game 1 after getting on base with a single in the fourth inning. Micah Brown then reached on a bunt.

Next, Brown stole second base and Walker stole third base. On the double steal, Grants Pass catcher Chris Leenknecht attempted to make the throw to second base, but the ball kicked off the second baseman's glove and went into the outfield.

Brown went 2-for-3 in the opener and was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run in Game 2.

Josh Robinson allowed just five hits and one walk and fanned 10 in the opener for Grants Pass (0-4, 0-3 SOH), which had runners on first and second base with two outs in the sixth before its next batter popped up.

In the second game, Walker (1-0) starred on the mound. The senior threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks.

Jared Evans was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run, Taylor Raff hit a two-run double in the second inning and Brown connected on a two-out RBI double in the first inning.
