U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., will meet Friday with local technology crimes investigators and later that day hold a town hall meeting in Medford.

Walden, chairman of the House Communications and Technology Subcommittee, will meet with the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force at 2 p.m. Friday at Central Point City Hall, 155 South Second St.

His town hall meeting will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the Medford Public Library, 205 S. Central Ave., Medford.

Walden is leading a cybersecurity working group of House Republicans and Democrats to examine issues regarding cybersecurity, with a focus on how cyber crimes affect businesses.

In a press release, Walden said the working group has been asked to identify any legal impediments to securing communications networks against cyberthreats and to examine "incentive-based approaches" to encourage private-sector companies to work with each other and the public sector on the issue.

Walden also will attend a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet Saturday in Medford.
