Our dear Leila lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease at Farmington Square, Medford, Ore., on March 10, 2012. She was the fifth of nine children, born to Robert and Leila Smith Beal, on September 13, 1925, in Little Rock, Ark. She was a graduate of Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., and the West Suburban School of Nursing, Oak Park, Ill. She

married Fred Bevensee in December 1951.

In the 1950s, Leila and Fred sojourned in Mexico and Peru in association with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They returned stateside in 1960. They subsequently lived in North Carolina, Florida, California and Texas, where Leila mothered their five daughters and advanced in her nursing career. She retired from the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas, in 1991. Fondly known as "Mrs. B," she loved and helped care for hundreds of children. Leila and Fred moved to

Oregon in 1991.

Leila was sweet natured and positive, feisty and fun. Her faith in Jesus was the foundation of her being, and she met life's challenges with humor and grace. She was devoted to her beloved "Freddie" and to her family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Fred; her daughters, Jean (Jeff)

Gilmore, of Ashland, Ore., Jill Bevensee, of Medford, Ore., Virginia (Joel) Lee, of Duncanville, Texas, Nancy Sawyer, of Rockville, Md., and Alice (David) Selman, of Red Oak, Texas; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Joseph (Kathy) Beal, of Kettering, Ohio, Samuel Beal, of Conway, Ark., Robert (Gladys) Beal, of Little Rock, Ark.,

Our family is indebted to the heroic staff at Farmington Square, Asante Hospice and Skylark Memory Care.
