O'BRIEN — A teenage girl told police she fought off a would-be kidnapper Thursday night on Waldo Road.

According to a news release from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, the 15-year-old girl was jogging and stopped near a bridge in the 700 block of Waldo.

A man driving a black van stopped and attacked her, grabbing her from behind and trying to drag her into the van.

She managed to struggle free and run for help. The Sheriff's Office got the call just before 8 p.m., but the attacker was nowhere to be found.

The girl was treated at Three Rivers Community Hospital and released.

The assailant was described as white, slightly more than 6 feet tall, about 180 to 200 pounds, blond, with an athletic build. He wore a ski mask.

The van had California license plates, appeared to be spray-painted flat-black and had a dent on the rear passenger side. The windows were tinted, with bubbles in the tinting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy George Gasperson at 541-474-5123, option 5.
