Southern Oregon pitcher Jordyn Kurtz has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Softball pitcher of the week.

Kurtz pitched three complete games, going 2-1 while yielding two earned runs in 19 innings with 19 strikeouts.

The senior had a 0.74 ERA in the three games against No. 5 Oregon Tech, College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon to help the Raiders go 4-1 on the road.

She also finished the week with four hits, including a home run and two doubles. She totaled six RBIs, with four coming in a 9-3 road win over Eastern Oregon.

It marks the first time this season and third time in her career that Kurtz has been named conference pitcher of the week.

OSU'S FRY HONORED — Oregon State freshman left-handed pitcher Jace Fry has been named the Pac-12 Conference's pitcher of the week.

Fry threw his first career shutout on Saturday in the Beavers' 3-0 win over then-No. 11 UCLA. He scattered six hits and two walks while striking out six.

He needed just 107 pitches for his fourth win of the season, lowering his ERA to 2.23. The Beaverton native has allowed just three earned runs in 301/3 innings in April for an ERA of 0.89.

His shutout was the first by an Oregon State freshman since Sam Gaviglio downed Stanford, 5-0, in 2009.

Fry is the first Oregon State true freshman to be named Pac-12 pitcher of thw week since Kevin Gunderson in 2004.

POWERS IN LEAD — At El Cajon, Calif., former North Medford player Sunshine Powers shot an even-par 72 to help Concordia University take the team lead after the first day of the six-team field at the GSAC/Cal Pac/CCC NAIA Qualifier held at Sycuan Golf and Tennis Club

Powers, a sophomore, shares the first-round lead with College of Idaho's Trish Gibbens. There are 32 players in the field.

The 13th-ranked Cavaliers shot a 317 and lead No. 19 College of Idaho by 16 strokes.

The winning team earns a berth at nationals.

Also Monday, Powers was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference golfer of the week after sharing medalist honors last week in the conference tournament.
