EL CAJON, Calif. — Sunshine Powers was medalist of the GSAC/Cal Pac/CCC women's golf regional qualifying tournament Tuesday, leading Concordia University to the team title and berth in the NAIA national tournament.

Powers, a sophomore from North Medford High, shot a final round of 4-over-par 76 at Sycuan Golf and Tennis Club. She shared the lead after a first-round 72 on Monday.

She edged teammate Holly Speer by one shot. Speer shot a 73.

Powers was co-medalist a week earlier in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament.

Thirteenth-ranked Concordia shot 628 as a team — including 311 on Tuesday — to win the 36-hole event by 27 strokes.

It was the Cavaliers' first regional title and earned them a trip to nationals May 15 in Greeneville, Tenn.

Concordia, which led by 16 shots entering the final round, will be making its eighth straight national appearance. It placed 13th last year, and four of the five players on that team return.
