A 4 a.m. sweep of the Bear Creek Greenway for illegal camping by Medford police today yielded four arrests and 18 citations, according to a news release.

The four arrests included a suspect who had failed to register as a sex offender, and others who had felony and misdemeanor warrants. Police also issued 18 citations for prohibited camping.

Lt. Mike Budreau said officers had been notifying transients camping along the greenway of the sweep for weeks. Several social services organizations set up in Hawthorne Park to provide assistance to those told to vacate. Service organizations included La Clinica, Salvation Army, Interfaith Care Community and Jackson County Mental Health.
