Southern Oregon University will break ground today on the first phase of construction of two new residence halls and a dining center on the north side of its campus.

SOU President Mary Cullinan and Ashland Mayor John Stromberg will be among the speakers during today's ceremony, which begins at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Greensprings Residence Hall, adjacent to the construction area.

The project's contractor is Adroit Construction. The project is expected to employ about 200 workers. It will include nearly 200,000 square feet of residents halls with more than 700 beds, as well as a 27,000-square-foot dining and community hall.
