Geraldine Louise Nelson went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 24, 2012. She was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., June 8, 1931, to Gerald and Eleanor Sarah Lewis. She graduated from Klamath Union High School and attended Oregon State University.
Geraldine "Gerry" married her best friend, Gerald "Jerry"
Nelson, on August 24, 1951, in Klamath Falls, Ore. They moved to the Medford area from Klamath Falls in 1955. Gerry worked at Wilson Elementary School, then at Medford Senior High School in the office, from where she retired 1996.
She loved to dance with her husband, and the grandkids
remember her "dancing shoes" and the music she enjoyed. Other interests they enjoyed were bowling, carting the kids to their different activities, attending the annual Medford Jazz Festival, gardening, and her flowers. She was a great mother, homemaker, and grandmother. She always welcomed family friends into their home. She was known for her good
cooking, a full refrigerator, and surprises waiting in the food pantry. Christmastime was always a highlight with all the decorations and pleasant smells from all the baking and cooking. She also made sure her several cookie jars were filled with cookies for when family and friends stopped in.
After retirement, she would spend Wednesday afternoons with her quilting friends. Her husband would set up the
family room and the ladies would enjoy one another's
company. She blessed each one of her children and
grandchildren with their own quilt.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gerald and Eleanor Lewis; stepfather, Harry DeJarnett; and brother, Charles Lewis.
Geraldine is survived by her husband, Gerald; four children, Denise (Marty) Wagner, Fred (Chris) Nelson, Charlie (Gina) Nelson, and Mike (Saskia) Nelson; eight grandchildren, Christian (Jill), Amanda (Matthew), Shane (Karrie), Kayla, Kendra (Josh), Kyle, Kevin, Katelyn, Jerone, and Ben; and ten great-grandchildren.
There will be a family gathering on Saturday, April 28, 2012, 1:00 p.m., at 408 Oak Grove Dr., Medford, OR 97501.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Husum and his staff, Allcare Care Service, and
Serenity Harbor Foster Home for their professional loving care of Geraldine.
We will all miss her.
