A woman who had not been in contact with her Rogue Valley family for more than a year reappeared earlier this week.

Melissa Atchley, a 30-year-old mother of two, had been missing since April 18, 2011, after last being seen in the Portland area. She worked there as an exotic dancer, leaving her 6-year-old and 3-year-old in the care of family in the Rogue Valley. She hoped to someday make a permanent move, family had said.

Atchley had last been seen leaving a friend's apartment carrying a small bag before disappearing and her family had feared she was a victim of foul play. Family members also said that because of her profession, Portland area police had not made an adequate effort to find her.

The Mail Tribune reported on Atchley's disappearance in late March. Atchley showed up at her mother's home earlier this week.

Lt. Robert King of the Portland police said the case has been officially closed.

"It is not clear why she has been apparently voluntarily missing," King said.
