June 30, 1930 - April 14, 2012
Jackie Young passed away peacefully at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, in Los Angeles, Calif., after a long battle with cancer, with her sons at her side. She left life as she lived it: on her own terms and with vigor and determination.
Born Jacqueline Marvel Weitsman at Hollywood Hospital to Sidney Weitsman and Mary Gursky Weitsman, Jackie graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1948. She married Saul Young October 1, 1950. They began their livelihood in the fashion dress business in L.A., both as manufacturers' representatives and, for a time, as owners of a dress shop in Studio City, Calif., where they lived for many years and raised their two sons, Steven and David. When Saul unexpectedly passed away in 1981, Jackie took over their sales business at the California Apparel Mart, and successfully managed the business for several years until her retirement in the 1990s.
She married the late Seaman Jacobs in 1985. In the late 1990s Jackie moved to Century City, where she resided until her death. She supported many causes and, until a week before her death, was a weekly volunteer at Cedars Sinai Hospital.
She is survived by sons, Steven (Catherine) Young, of Sedona, Ariz., and David (Linda) Young, of Ashland, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Rachael Young, of Vermont, and Gabriel and Abigail Young, of Oregon. Jackie leaves many friends behind as well, and will always be remembered for her style, beauty, directness, sense of humor and fighting spirit. She will be missed. Per Jackie's wishes, cremation arrangements will be carried out by the Neptune Society and there will be no memorial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Children's Hospital, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or Guide Dogs of America.
