Kenneth Ribet of UC Berkeley will host a Southern Oregon University lecture on elliptic curves at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, in Taylor Hall, room 29/30.

Ribert will host an additional lecture on elliptic curves and Fermat's Last Theorem at 4 p.m. in the Science Building, room 118.

The events are open to the public.

Ribet will also discuss how elliptic curves are easy to explore using Sage, a mathematics tool. He will demonstrate some of Sage's features on his laptop.

Ribet received his doctorate from Harvard in 1973. He taught at Princeton, and has taught at Berkeley since 1978.
