Linda Elaine Twitchell, 67, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012, at her Central Point, Ore., home following a courageous eight-year battle with cancer.
She was the wife of Cleve Twitchell, longtime Mail Tribune editor and columnist, whom she married August 20, 1977. For more than two decades she was the "dining companion" frequently mentioned in Cleve's weekly dining columns.
Her volunteer work benefited a number of Rogue Valley organizations, among them the SMART reading program and the Southern Oregon Humane Society. At other times, she ran a foreign student program and drove children in need to medical and counseling appointments. She was known for her smile and sense of humor.
Linda was born August 25, 1944, in Eugene, Ore., to Elmer and Evelyn Johnson. She spent most of her childhood in Grants Pass, Ore., but graduated from Medford High School in 1962, because the family moved to Medford, Ore., between her junior and senior years. She later attended what is now Southern Oregon University.
Early in her adult life she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for such firms as Cascade Wood Products and Rogue Animal Hospital.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Richard Hogan and Katy Hogan, both of Medford; her husband's children, Wendy Cooper, of Central Point, and Peter Twitchell Bohnert, of Portland, Ore.; as well as six grandchildren.
A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
Contributions in her memory may be made to SMART, 670 Superior Court, Suite 108, Medford, OR 97504, or the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Rd., Medford, OR 97501.
