CORVALLIS — North Medford gave it a run in muddy conditions Saturday but couldn't quite make it happen in American Legion A baseball, losing 8-0 to Sprague to snap a 10-game winning streak during play at the Corvallis Summer Slam Woodbat Tournament.

The Mavericks received a 2-for-3 effort from Taylor Raff and got a single from Jared Evans but that was it as Sprague allowed only three hits in the game at Corvallis High.

"We hit the ball really well but everything was right at them," said Mavericks head coach Brett Wolfe. "The first three innings our hitters jumped all over it and hit it right on the nose but with a wood bat, everything we did was just right at them."

Sprague scored only one earned run as it took advantage of five errors by the Mavericks (15-3, 13-1 Area 4). Sprague pulled away with seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings.

The rain-adjusted schedule has North Medford playing host Corvallis at 11:45 a.m. this morning and then waiting to learn where the Mavericks fall in the tournament seeding. A win would help lock up a spot in tonight's championship game at 6, while a loss would likely drop the Mavericks into a 3 p.m. battle for third place.
