Mildred Ruth Preston Vanderpool, 96, of Medford, Ore., passed away due to injuries from a fall Saturday, June 16, 2012. She was still living in her own home by herself on her own terms. Mildred was born August 12, 1915, to William Walter and Helen Eva Preston, at Roaring River near Seligman, Mo.
Mildred married Lloyd Taylor Vanderpool May 9, 1932, in Eureka Springs, Ark. After the Depression and World War II, the family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945. Mildred was the cook at the Modoc Orchard Bunkhouse for a couple of years and enjoyed the Table Rock Community. They later moved to Medford, Ore. She also worked for many years at the Modoc packing house where she made many lifelong friends.
Mildred was admired and loved by neighbors, friends, and family. She enjoyed rock hounding, gardening, sewing, camping, traveling, and riding her four-wheeler. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, who was her pride and joy.
Mildred was preceded in death by her father; mother; sisters, Mary Findley and Grace Hawk; brother, Fred Preston; her husband, Lloyd; son, Bill; daughter, Louise Doran; and her son-in-law, Ernest Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Lois Smith, of Central Point, Ore.; granddaughter, Tamera (Larry) Chastain, of White City, Ore.; grandson, Shane (Diana) Doran, of Eagle Point, Ore.; granddaughter, Melissa Smith, of Eugene, Ore.; four great-grandchildren, Shawn Doran Surmanian, Brad Chastain, Christopher and Spenser Doran; son-in-law, David Doran, of White City, Ore.; and one sister, Geneva Rains, of Arkansas City, Ark.
