ROSEBURG — The Medford Mustangs played on the edge Saturday, scoring a combined 10 seventh-inning runs in an Area 4 baseball doubleheader against Roseburg at Legion Field.

Such a situation didn't work out for Medford in an opening 8-4 loss to Dr. Stewart's but paid off in the nightcap as the Mustangs rallied for a 6-3 win and an American Legion AAA split.

Medford (23-17, 6-8 Area 4) trailed 3-0 heading into its last at-bat in Game 2 before conjuring up another dramatic finish with six runs.

Hayden Evans opened the seventh with the first of his two hits in the inning, then the Mustangs proceeded to load the bases with an infield single by Charlie Walker and walk to Taylor Humphrey. Ethan Schlecht followed with a two-run single to center field, then Billy Hansen was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases. Jessie Hornbrook's hard shot to first base was knocked down but thrown off target toward home plate to allow two more runs to score. Nate Namanny and Evans added RBI singles to close out the scoring.

A.J. Doolittle, who came on in a rough spot with two on and nobody out in the bottom of the sixth, retired all six batters he faced — three by strikeout — to earn the victory.

Roseburg scored seven sixth-inning runs to pull away in Game 1, with three runs unearned due to a pair of Medford errors. Roseburg had five of its nine hits in that inning.

In the seventh, Medford scored two runs on two errors and also got RBI singles by Walker and Evans. The Mustangs had only two hits heading into the frame and finished with seven overall against Mike Morin.
