Providence Medford Medical Center will host hospice and end-of-life care training sessions for aspiring volunteers, but applicants must sign up by Aug. 1, program officials said.

No experience is necessary for the free two-day training session, which starts in late August, but applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Interviews will be scheduled following signups.

Officials said volunteers should possess emotional maturity, dependability, patience and have good listening skills. Hospice tasks include visiting patients, recording oral histories, writing letters or journal entries, giving social support to loved ones, and running errands.
