Juanita L. Conner passed from this world June 27, 2012, at Waterford at Three Fountains Nursing and Rehabilitation, at the age of 92. She was born September 27, 1919, in Hatfield, Ark., the daughter of Frank and Lilly Barton. She married Ross M. Conner September 29, 1935, in Artesia, N.M. Ross and Juanita headed West in the early 1940s with their two children and finally settled in the Rogue Valley. In the early 1960s, they built and landscaped a beautiful home in the Applegate area of Thompson Creek, and later relocated to Humbug Creek, also in the Applegate.

Juanita was a loving mother and wife, and was active in the Applegate Community Church for years. She was a wealth of information on organic gardening long before it was popular, and could make just about anything grow. Juanita also was a talented artist. Her hobbies were birdwatching, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and nutrition. She gave generously of her time and talents to the community in which she lived.

She is survived by son, Jerry R. Conner, of Shady Cove, Ore.; daughter, Billie L. Wood, of Downieville, Calif.; four grandchildren, Berkley R. Conner, of Shady Cove, Ore., Adrione Gaytan, of Medford, Ore., Anita K. Watkins, of Aurora, Colo., and Lisa M. Backes, of S. Lake Tahoe, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving (and loved) husband of 64 years, Ross M. Conner; three sisters; and one brother.

There will be a memorial gathering in honor of Juanita's life at McKee Bridge Restaurant, 9045 Upper Applegate Rd., Jacksonville/Ruch, Ore., at 12:00 noon, Monday, July 30, 2012. This will be a no-host luncheon for those who wish to eat.
