Hear originals and some obscure covers with distinct rhythms created by a handmade washboard guitar when Portland bluesman Nathan James and his band The Rhythm Scratchers come to town.

James and the band perform at 9:30 p.m., at Alex's Plaza Restaurant and Bar, 35 N. Main St., Ashland. The trio's sound brings together 1920s acoustic blues, '50s uptown blues and '60s R&B.

The cover is $5.
