Medford police will cite and fine motorists who fail to yield the right of way for pedestrians using crosswalks from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at the corner of North Columbus Avenue and West Second Street.

The targeted pedestrian enforcement operation is intended to educate drivers about right of way laws and pedestrian safety, police said in a news release. They remind drivers that there is a crosswalk at every intersection whether it is marked or not.

Police will stop drivers who fail to stop at the crosswalk and remain stopped while pedestrians cross and those who pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk. Both violations carry a fine of $260.
