Former Portland Trail Blazers star Jerome Kersey is entered in the 83rd Southern Oregon Golf Championships this week at Rogue Valley Country Club.

Former Portland Trail Blazers star Jerome Kersey is entered in the 83rd Southern Oregon Golf Championships this week at Rogue Valley Country Club.

Kersey, considered by many to be the best small forward in franchise history, played for the Blazers for 11 seasons. He was drafted in the second round of the 1984 out draft out of Longwood University.

He helped Portland to the NBA Finals in 1990 against the Detroit Pistons and in 1992 against the Chicago Bulls. In 17 seasons in the NBA — he played for four other teams — he averaged 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds. His best season in Portland was 1987-88, when he averaged 19.2 points and 8.3 rebounds.

Kersey, who lives in Lake Oswego and has friends in Medford, will play his qualifying round on Wednesday and is entered in the men's junior-senior division. His handicap is 12.
