Jackson County may soon kick off a $3.03 million project to replace the Fern Valley bridge over Bear Creek in Phoenix.

The Board of Commissioners will vote on the action item at its 9:30 a.m. public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 26, authorizing use of Federal Highway Bridge Program funds to pay for the project in full, according to a recommendation from County Administrator Danny Jordan.

County officials say replacing the bridge will increase its load limit capacity and give additional safety to motorists.

The bridge, near Ray's Food Place in Phoenix, crosses over Bear Creek and the Bear Creek Greenway. The project will be part of the Fern Valley Interchange replacement, headed by the Oregon Department of Transportation. If passed by the commissioners, the county will grant ODOT a six-month construction easement on two nearby tax lots.
